FUTURE GOALS:

Blooming Place for Kids plans to acquire a facility/property that will function as the heart of Blooming Place for Kids’ programs.  These programs will include year-round retreats for foster children and their families, holiday camp for displaced foster children, and a foster care-to-self- sufficiency transition program.  In addition, career training and college scholarship programs will be offered.

MISSION:

Blooming Place for Kids is committed to enriching the lives of children age 8-15 that are at-risk due to neglect and abuse by providing a summer camping experience, which has a profound effect on self-esteem. Blooming Place for Kids’ residential camp promotes positive values and encourages teamwork, sharing and individual growth.

                        A PLACE TO DREAM . . . to GROW . . . . . and just be a KID!!!

*Blooming Place for Kids currently leases existing camp facilities for camp until property becomes available to us.

FOUNDERS:

Our Founders are individuals deeply committed to improving the lives of neglected and
abused children by giving them hope for their own future through programs developed to build leadership skills, self-confidence, good moral character and values.

Blooming Place for Kids represents a dream come true for Jan Horn, Executive Director/Co-founder, and her husband Calvin.  Jan has had a lifelong love for children and strongly empathizes with their often unfortunate plights.  For many years, she was a single parent so she definitely understands the love and attention needed to raise kids into responsible and happy adults.

Jan’s broad knowledge and expertise in working with children comes from her combined experiences working for children’s behavioral and educational programs such as the Special Olympics, YMCA youth camp, and special education school programs. Her combined passion and experience led her to create and develop Blooming Place for Kids in 2001.

Jan, Calvin, the Advisory Board, the Board of Directors, and many loyal supporters all share the same strong commitment to offering abused and neglected children a safe and supportive place to “mend, grow and bloom.”  Jan and Calvin believe with persistence and commitment, “we can ALL make a difference in the lives of our greatest asset, our children.”

Blooming Place for Kids tries to better prepare campers to cope with the serious challenges they face in their own lives after they leave the camp.
